  School-Wide Welcome to SMS!

Greetings to all of you who are visiting our St. Mary’s web site!

This is my ninth year as principal at this wonderful school.  Let me tell you, it is a great place to be! We are blessed to have a very dedicated staff and best students anywhere!

As a small Catholic Christian school, we are able to carry out the mission of Christ in a loving and caring educational environment.

Catholic schools have six secrets of success, according to Kathyrn Ann Connelly, who writes for the Catholic Update magazine. Let me put these six secrets in the context of St. Mary’s School for you.

1) Catholic schools develop positive Catholic Christian identity.-It is our goal here at SMS to provide experiences and opportunities for children and adults to know that God is a very real presence in life and that they are an important part of the Catholic community of faith. Prayer and spirituality are part of the essence and moral fiber of our school.

2) Catholic families want to pass on their tradition.- SMS is a place of evangelization, a place where all are encouraged to live the gospel of Jesus. It is our aim to make the gospel a part of every child’s learning; to help parents in their job to form and inform their children in the development of Christian values enhanced by Catholic traditions.

3) Catholic schools develop the whole person-The child is a whole being; the mind cannot be separated from the body and soul. At SMS we integrate the spiritual with the secular; academic skills are enmeshed with solid Christian formation.

4) Children learn best in a well-disciplined setting-At SMS we require that our students conduct themselves responsibly and respectfully. We teach them, and constantly reinforce, that actions have consequences, both positively and negatively.

5) Local finance and governance make schools work.-The stakeholders of SMS are the families who send their children here, the parish that supports them, as well as the students and staff of SMS. As an accredited school, SMS seeks input from its stakeholders as part of the on-going improvement process. Keeping tuition affordable for all, providing just salaries, and properly equipping our school in technology and up-to-date educational programs seem to be our greatest challenges each year.

6) Catholic schools are good for everyone’s future.SMS encourages and teaches

a way of life that includes service, a strong sense of responsibility, and a thirst for

justice and peace. We encourage our students and staff to try to make the world

a better place for all.

Yes, SMS is a great place to be!  Thank you for being part of our great school.
